Description

Glutathione — Master Antioxidant Tripeptide for Redox Research (1500mg)

What is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide composed of glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine (L-γ-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine). It is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant in the human body and is central to cellular redox homeostasis, detoxification and immune function research.

As a research compound, glutathione is studied for its role in neutralising reactive oxygen species (ROS), regenerating other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, and serving as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase enzymes. Its cysteine residue provides the reactive thiol group responsible for its antioxidant activity.

Mechanism of Research Interest

  • ROS Scavenging: The thiol group of cysteine directly neutralises reactive oxygen and nitrogen species.
  • Enzyme Cofactor: Serves as a substrate for glutathione peroxidases and glutathione S-transferases in redox and detoxification research.
  • Redox Homeostasis: Maintains the intracellular glutathione/glutathione disulfide (GSH/GSSG) ratio used as a key marker of oxidative stress.
  • Antioxidant Recycling: Participates in the regeneration of other antioxidants, including ascorbate and tocopherol.

Research Applications

  • Oxidative stress and redox balance research
  • Detoxification pathway studies
  • Antioxidant defence mechanism research
  • Cell culture supplement applications

  • Detoxification Research: Central to phase II detoxification pathway investigations.
  • GSH/GSSG Assays: Supports oxidative stress biomarker measurements in cell models.

Reconstitution Guidelines

For experienced laboratory personnel only. This lyophilised powder must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water prior to research use.

  • Allow the vial to equilibrate to room temperature (15–25°C) before reconstitution.
  • Wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry.
  • Using a sterile syringe, add the required volume of Bacteriostatic Water by injecting slowly down the inner wall of the vial — do not aim the stream directly at the lyophilised cake.
  • Gently swirl the vial until the powder is fully dissolved. Do not shake vigorously, as this can denature the peptide.
  • Visually inspect the reconstituted solution — it should be clear and free of particulate matter.
  • Store reconstituted solutions at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe defined in your research protocol. Discard any unused solution after the recommended period.
