Description
Melanotan I Vial — Melanocortin Peptide for Pigmentation Research (10mg)
What is Melanotan I?
Melanotan I is a synthetic 13-amino acid peptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a naturally occurring melanocortin peptide. It was developed through structural modification of α-MSH to enhance resistance to enzymatic degradation and increase receptor selectivity.
The peptide is a potent agonist of the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), the receptor that governs melanogenesis in melanocytes. Research applications focus on the MC1R signalling cascade and the regulation of pigment production at the cellular level.
Mechanism of Research Interest
- MC1R Agonism: Binds and activates the melanocortin-1 receptor, initiating cAMP-dependent signalling cascades in melanocyte models.
- Melanogenesis Regulation: Studies examine the downstream activation of tyrosinase and related enzymes controlling melanin synthesis.
- Modified α-MSH Pharmacology: Provides a stable analogue for studying structure-activity relationships of the melanocortin peptide family.
Research Applications
- Melanogenesis and pigmentation research
- Melanocortin receptor pharmacology
- cAMP signalling cascade studies
- α-MSH analogue structure-function research

Reconstitution Guidelines
For experienced laboratory personnel only. This lyophilised powder must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water prior to research use.
- Allow the vial to equilibrate to room temperature (15–25°C) before reconstitution.
- Wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry.
- Using a sterile syringe, add the required volume of Bacteriostatic Water by injecting slowly down the inner wall of the vial — do not aim the stream directly at the lyophilised cake.
- Gently swirl the vial until the powder is fully dissolved. Do not shake vigorously, as this can denature the peptide.
- Visually inspect the reconstituted solution — it should be clear and free of particulate matter.
- Store reconstituted solutions at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe defined in your research protocol. Discard any unused solution after the recommended period.
