Description

NAD+ — Cellular Metabolism Coenzyme for Bioenergetics Research (500mg)

What is NAD+?

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a central coenzyme found in all living cells. It functions as an electron carrier in redox reactions, shuttling between its oxidised (NAD+) and reduced (NADH) forms across hundreds of metabolic reactions, including glycolysis, the citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation.

Beyond its classical role in energy metabolism, NAD+ serves as a substrate for key signalling enzymes including sirtuins (SIRT1-7), PARP family enzymes and CD38/CD157. This dual role has made NAD+ biology one of the most active areas of research in bioenergetics, ageing and cellular stress biology.

Mechanism of Research Interest

  • Electron Transport: Acts as a redox cofactor in glycolysis, the TCA cycle and the electron transport chain.
  • Sirtuin Substrate: Provides the substrate for sirtuin deacetylase enzymes, linking NAD+ levels to epigenetic and metabolic regulation.
  • PARP Signalling: Consumed by poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases during DNA damage response research.
  • Cellular NAD+ Pool Studies: Enables investigations into NAD+ depletion, biosynthesis (salvage and Preiss-Handler pathways) and homeostasis.

Research Applications

  • Cellular energy metabolism research
  • Sirtuin and longevity pathway studies
  • Mitochondrial bioenergetics research
  • Redox biology and NAD+/NADH ratio assays

Reconstitution Guidelines

For experienced laboratory personnel only. This lyophilised powder must be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water prior to research use.

  • Allow the vial to equilibrate to room temperature (15–25°C) before reconstitution.
  • Wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry.
  • Using a sterile syringe, add the required volume of Bacteriostatic Water by injecting slowly down the inner wall of the vial — do not aim the stream directly at the lyophilised cake.
  • Gently swirl the vial until the powder is fully dissolved. Do not shake vigorously, as this can denature the peptide.
  • Visually inspect the reconstituted solution — it should be clear and free of particulate matter.
  • Store reconstituted solutions at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe defined in your research protocol. Discard any unused solution after the recommended period.
